About the Position:
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP) supports the CSUF mission of preparing our diverse student body for academic and professional success. We develop and support practices, programming, and policies across the broad spectrum of inclusivity, equity and civility for the CSUF campus community. Through the provision of consultation and training, we strive to promote a campus community wherein students, staff and faculty are engaged in the values of inclusive excellence. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Marketing Specialist (Graphic Designer II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Marketing Specialist is a collaborative, versatile, and creative individual who ensures alignment in the messaging, branding, and visual representations for the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP). Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President for DIEP, the Specialist works independently on a variety of small to medium scale projects or on a significant portion of a larger project. The Specialist will implement strategic marketing plans to brand and promote the Office, its activities, initiatives, programs, and partnerships. The Specialist will use creativity to create and execute graphic art and designs while leveraging their expertise to further the Office's efforts.

Aiding in campus re-entry efforts following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marketing Specialist will support an equitable return to campus operations by providing direct graphic design and marketing support to the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Programs Office (DIEP). The Coordinator Specialist will work closely with content developers, facilitators, and subject matter experts within DIEP and across campus. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. Foundational knowledge of the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design, as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design, production principles, and communication theory including a basic understanding of marketing and promotion concepts. Possession of strong graphic design skills and the artistic ability necessary to translate communication needs into artistic design. Solid working knowledge of applicable graphic design software packages, hardware systems, and peripherals. Ability to use interactive technologies and create new methods of combining software and graphic packages to address communication and visual product goals. Ability to understand university level curriculum concepts and convey them graphically. Thorough knowledge of current campus documents and university-wide publication needs. Thorough understanding of printing and vendor services to prepare specifications for printing. Ability to prepare camera-ready materials and a working knowledge of design and electronic prepress processes used in the production of complex publications. Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct graphic art communication projects and handle multiple priorities. Working knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties. Possession of strong critical thinking skills and excellent writing and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to consult and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students and to interpret and translate their needs into effective visual formats. Ability to plan and coordinate projects amongst multiple priorities and deadlines.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Design, Graphic Communications or related field from an accredited four year college or university or equivalent experience preferred. Demonstrated graphic design skills and artistic ability to translate communication needs into an artistic design. Minimum two (2) years of experience working with creative/graphic design and social media. Experience in a higher education diversity-related office is highly preferred.
