Posting Text:
SCAD seeks an associate chair of animation to provide vision and leadership for the department. This position is based in Savannah, Ga., a walkable, bikeable coastal city that serves as a living laboratory for faculty and students alike to study art and design.

In this position, you will use your expert technical proficiency and expertise to develop and teach a curriculum that explores animation styles, from stop-motion to 2D and 3D animation. You will evaluate professors through class observations and reviews of student evaluations, service and professional development opportunities, and their contributions to department goals. With the chair of animation and the dean of the School of Digital Media, you will develop, implement, and oversee the department budget; provide professional development opportunities for professors; and create a strategic departmental plan that is consistent with SCAD and School of Digital Media goals. In addition, you will assist the office of admission with undergraduate recruitment efforts. As an associate chair, you will also maintain and cultivate your relationships in the animation field.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio of work that reflects a high degree of animation knowledge as either an artist or a member of production management. Candidates with an artistic background should have expertise with Maya or Toonboom; a thorough understand of body mechanics, acting, posing, and storytelling techniques; and a strong work ethic. Candidates with a production background should have expertise in production tracking software such as Shotgun; demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of episodic or feature production processes, including management, design, planning, budgeting, staffing, and technology; and exceptional emotional intelligence.

This position requires someone who is self-driven, a stellar communicator, and an excellent team player. The successful candidate should have experience as a mentor, leader, and manager; can accomplish multiple tasks with ease, re-prioritizing as needed to meet deadlines; and should be exceptionally organized.

Requirements
- Minimum of seven years of experience in either a leadership role at an animation studio or in an animation production capacity for several major productions
- Significant university-level teaching (for both B.F.A. and M.F.A. programs) and administration experience preferred
- Experience developing curriculum and leading achievement initiatives that improve student outcomes
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated flexibility and professionalism in handling the diverse demands of a creative environment
