Graphic Designer

Position Overview

At KU Marketing, we tell the world how the University of Kansas inspires Jayhawks to their full potential, fuels discovery and ambition, revels in the tradition-rich Jayhawk spirit, and cares for our students, our state, and the greater good. Our strategic, creative team focuses its expertise on meeting recruitment and brand-development objectives. We find stories of curiosity, resolve, and triumph from the KU community, and we share those with prospective students of many ages and interests. We help define every day what it means to be a Jayhawk—and we know that crimson and blue will look good on you.

The graphic designer is an integral part of creating and maintaining the visual language of the University of Kansas—and doing so in a way that resonates with a variety of audiences. This person contributes to the development of marketing collateral for the institution and its units, our partners (clients). This includes working in a variety of media, both print and digital, to produce advertisements, elements for social media, postcards and other direct mail pieces, brochures large and small, event collateral, websites and website components, as well as visual identity components, such as signatures, logos, and other graphic elements. The designer provides design layout and production, photo selection and editing, and contributes to brainstorming and ideation for campaigns throughout the year. Our entire creative team, of which the graphic designer is part, works to present KU to target audiences with innovative, effective, best-in-class creative work. The graphic designer works with art directors, user experience designers, photographers, videographers, copywriters, editors, marketing strategists, project managers, and other team mates on a daily basis. The ideal graphic designer is full of ideas, creates well within design systems, enjoys collaborative work and problem-solving, and can kern a perfect headline in their sleep.
