Description
The Arts & Humanities division is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty positionin the Interior Design department.The instructor performs duties and functions under the general direction of the Provost of Academic and Student Affairs and is responsible primarily to the Arts & Humanities Division Dean.
The ideal candidate would be a dedicated, experienced, open-minded, and motivated individual, providing leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways. They will demonstrate commitment to advancing the interior design body of knowledge, and building relationships with students and/or colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities. A record of community service and outreach is also an important consideration in helping to achieve our instructional and program leadership goals. As an instructor in the Interior Design Department, the individual is responsible for teaching lecture and studio courses tostudents from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities.Courses may include but are not limited to foundation and upper division studios; architectural and building technology; digital media and visual communications, theory, history, and practices.

COMPREHENSIVE WAGE AND BENEFIT PACKAGE
Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $60,951.40; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires cannot be placed above $65,354.92 unless exceptional circumstances prevail.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Bellevue College has one of the largest interior design programs in the state of Washington. The CIDA-accredited program provides students with a broad foundation in fine arts and design, skill-based practice, and critical thinking experiences. The curriculum offers rigorous and varied methods of design investigation, including exposure to a variety of interior project types and relevant design problems. Our program currently enrolls over 400 students, historically graduating an average of 50 to 70 students per year. The program attracts students with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, with half of our students employed while they are enrolled, and many returning students who are preparing for or reacting to career or life changes. Currently, we have 4 full-time faculty members and many talented adjunct instructors, all with diverse academic backgrounds, practice-based experience, and a dedication to student success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL DUTIES

Conduct equitable teaching and promote learning excellence in the Interior Design department via grounded and online course delivery
Foster a positive and caring learning community where diversity and pluralism are advanced
Review and update assigned courses to ensure currency of information, appropriate pedagogy, and implementation of student learning outcomes
Actively participate in program assessment processes as part of ongoing program and college activities, and especially as part of ongoing CIDA accreditation processes.
Provide verbal and written assessment of student learning outcomes
Participate in program-level curriculum development and revision that is appropriate for a culturally-diverse population
Provide culturally-responsible advising to prospective and currently-enrolled program students on degree completion planning, transfer credit evaluation, and career preparation, including navigating obstacles that underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations may experience in college (e.g. students with disabilities, students of color, first generation college students, LBGTQia students, Veterans, 2nd language learners, etc.)
Establish weekly office hours (5 hours/week) to assist students with coursework and classroom-related questions
Support the college's Pluralism and Diversity initiative and Student Success initiative by integrating related concepts into class activities and departmental programs
Maintain knowledge and skills in teaching, in the Interior Design discipline, and in cultural versatility
Contribute to college and departmental governance and activities (e.g. project leadership, program chair roles, college-wide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations, etc.)
Participate in community outreach through instructional and program-sponsored efforts, promoting collaborative relationships with guest lecturers and critics, industry partners, civic organizations, high schools, and the regional community at large
Perform other reasonable duties and functions that may be assigned by the Interior Design Department Chair

QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree from a regionally-accredited institution in interior design, architecture, interior architecture, environmental design, or industrial design.
Three years of experience teaching in higher education
Three years of professional experience in interior design, architecture, interior architecture, environmental design, or industrial design
Experience using industry-standard digital design media
Philosophy of education appropriate to serve the needs of the diverse population of Bellevue College
Experience in integrating diversity, pluralism, and inclusion into teaching and learning, or equivalent transferable skills to do so
Familiarity with CIDA standards, NCIDQ certification, and their relevance to interior design education and practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in teaching a variety of interior design-related subjects in a four-year curriculum, such as design studio, history and theory, industry-standard software and other tools.
Mastery of digital design media, graphic communication skills and presentation techniques
Expertise in interdisciplinary curriculum and teaching
Expertise using 3D digital and traditional fabrication tools and processes
Experience in curriculum development and program management in a multi-cultural college setting
NCIDQ certification
Active affiliation with professional design organizations
Leadership experience in bringing together people of diverse backgrounds in an inclusive and collaborative manner
Expertise in sustainable design practices, to lead integration of LEED, Living Building Challenge, and other green strategies into the curriculum, campus, and community.
