Job Summary

The Department of Art at Columbus State University seeks to hire an innovative practitioner to bring progressive making and creative ideas to areas of Sculpture, 3D, and 2D Foundations. We desire a candidate who will develop new approaches to sculptural instruction and expand the integration of spatial work within a diverse department. The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher and artist within a broad range of practices such as fabrication, modeling, installation, drawing, and mixed media.

Responsibilities
  • Teach three to four studio courses each semester: foundation, intro, and advanced courses
  • Assist studio tech in managing sculpture studio spaces
  • Occasionally teach Gen Ed courses
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Serve on rotating faculty committees
  • Periodically assist with departmental recruiting and administrative duties

Further responsibilities include assisting the studio tech in managing and overseeing all aspects of the sculpture studio, advising undergraduate students, and service to the department. Our sculpture facilities offer fabrication equipment and machinery that will assist the successful candidate in implementing their vision for the sculpture area.

Required Qualifications

We seek someone with a terminal degree in Art (MFA), whose practice engages three-dimensional materials and processes and who can communicate contemporary art concerns to students.The successful candidate will have a robust knowledge of technique, theory, and history of art practice to contribute to our NASAD-accredited undergraduate program; a comprehensive understanding of current studio art health and safety practices; a vision toward integrating contemporary sculpture practices in traditional analog and expanded media processes; and an understanding of the history of sculpture with contemporary/interdisciplinary sculpture practices and theory. The candidate must also have the ability to teach undergraduate students in a cross-media studio arts program; work in a collaborative environment; and develop and sustain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and the local community.
