Detailed Job Description
The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences invites applicants to apply for a Non-Tenure Track Visiting Assistant Professor position as part of the McGhee Endowment in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. This is a 9-month appointment with a contract length of three years with the option to renew for up to a total of five years.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the school during the academic year, including courses that combine photography with graphic design and moving media. The successful candidate will be nimble, technologically savvy, forward-thinking on the future of photography and the creative industry, and will be skilled in how photography, graphic design, motion, and emerging technology combine. Additional background in photographic and video branding/marketing or experience as a creative director or content director is helpful.

The ideal candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary vibrancy of the Visual Media option in the BFA in Photographic Imaging Arts, in addition to augmenting the students and curriculum within the broader School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and the College of Art and Design at Rochester Institute of Technology in which this position is housed. The Visual Media option merges photography and video with graphic design and business.

The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) is internationally recognized for its professional study of photographic practices in a wide array of related disciplines, including advertising and fine art photography, photojournalism, visual media, photographic sciences, and media technologies. Required Minimum Qualifications
  • An MFA degree or equivalent terminal degree in photography, graphic design, or related areas. In certain circumstances, candidates with a Bachelor degree and exceptional professional and creative experience in a related field may be considered.
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in higher education or industry equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in combining photography and graphic design
  • Facility with applicable tools and software, including proficiency with appropriate programs like InDesign Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, etc.
  • Ability to assist students in developing their professional skills to prepare them for industry success
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the Colleges continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
