The Multimedia and Design Associate focuses on creative multimedia and design projects in support of College Relations. Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, he/she plans and develops ways to maximize the visual impact of news, feature stories, and other strategic communications. The associate will work on visual elements such as, photographs, videos, graphics, illustrations for online and print platforms, and brochures for marketing and fundraising priorities. The associate will also work with freelancers/contractors when needed to support photography, videography, and graphic design projects.

Responsibilities

Photography: Create and/or source photos to enhance news and feature stories, social media posts, online slide shows as well as printed material created by the Marketing and Communications team.
Graphic design: For print and digital platforms, work with editorial team to help design twice-yearly issues of Berkeley Engineer magazine. Create logos; design programs, brochures, invitations, awards, other items as needed. Working with the web director, design graphic elements and support web and email projects.
Videography: Create, edit and produce short news and feature videos for the web and social media. Assist as needed with longer video projects, such as for events, sometimes partnering with freelancers, as needed.
Infographics: Conceive of and create web and print graphics to tell a story or explain a complicated subject through images, text and graphic design, as standalone infographics or for stories on the web and in print.
Other areas: Create audio podcasts, manage digital archives, and other projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Excellent skills in photography and graphic design composition and editing skills for print and digital media.
Strong interest and expertise in video creation and editing skills.
Expert with key software tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere Pro, Audition, etc.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience managing clients, support staff and vendors.
Strong project management skills to effectively establish priorities, meet competing deadlines, and handle multiple small to large projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Solid knowledge of content management systems (Drupal or WordPress) and relevant web applications used for web site production.
Proficiency in digital asset management systems, such as Webdam, to maintain databases for desktop publishing and image storage.
Experience designing and coding responsive email messages; coding skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP.
