Summary
Works cooperatively with the Curator of Fine Arts Center Galleries and the Director of the School of Art in support of galleries exhibitions, programming, and collections. Assists the Curator in training and supervision of student employees. The Fine Arts Center Galleries Technician reports to the Director of the School of Art.
Essential Functions
- Handling and installation of artwork for professional and student exhibitions.
- Preparation and maintenance of galleries and support facilities.
- Supervision and training of student workers.
- Assists Galleries Curator in management of the Fine Arts Center Galleries Collection. Assures best practices in handling and storage of artwork.
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in studio art. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
- Master of Fine Arts degree in studio art
- 1 year of experience handling and installing artwork in a gallery, museum, or similar setting.
The following experience is preferred:
- Extensive technical background in the arts
- Moderate woodshop experience
- Basic understanding of health and safety issues
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with exhibition installation and lighting, handling of artworks, shipping of artwork, exhibition design.
- Carpentry, framing and matting skills.
- Budget management experience and supervisory experience.
- Good communication/collaboration skills.
