About the Position:
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed in educating students to be culturally, globally, socially, historically and environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. The Dean's Office is seeking an exceptional individual to join the team as a Lead Graphic Designer III. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Lead Graphic Designer III for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is responsible for carrying out the overall artistic direction and marketing communication efforts for the College. Working closely with the dean, associate deans, and department chairs, the Lead Graphic Designer is responsible for designing, creating, and promoting materials for the College. Responsible for the oversight and lead coordination of external and internal marketing efforts for the College, college media relations, community outreach, web communications, and publications. Oversees and monitors the College's social media. Manages college publications and websites, and maintains oversight of college and department websites. Oversees the calendar of events for the College. Ensures consistency of brand presentation across departments, programs, research centers, student organizations, and external constituency groups including alumni and campus administrators. The Lead Graphic Designer III coordinates with college departments in developing communication programs and materials that meet their communication and marketing needs, ensuring that communication materials adhere to CSU style and branding guidelines and further their goals. Writes news articles, promotional materials and press releases for the College. Provides lead direction for the Graphic Designer I. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. Foundational knowledge of the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design, as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. Extensive knowledge of communications and graphic design theory; advanced skills in graphic art, design and illustration; knowledge of production techniques and processes; and a demonstrated understanding of marketing communications. Advanced skills in complex computer graphics software and interactive technologies including a thorough understanding of file formats and peripheral software (e.g., printing, scanning, film recording) and working knowledge of graphics delivery and implementation software. Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright laws relative to the use of graphic and textual materials. Strong art direction, project planning and project management skills. Ability to work in a variety of media formats such as 35mm slides, broadcast and compressed video, and web site design, including an understanding of the processes and techniques involved. Extensive knowledge of printing and other vendor services to ensure the most effective use of resources. Strong consultative and persuasive skills including demonstrated subject matter expertise in key instructional or promotional areas requiring graphic communications support. Demonstrated ability managing project budgets.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Strong consultative skills, including demonstrated expertise in key instructional or promotional areas requiring graphic communications support. Knowledge of brand management theory and techniques. Strong project management skills including communication, collaboration, time management, and organization.
