About the Position:
University Advancement builds and strengthens relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs to achieve student and alumni success. Strategic Communications and Brand Management plays an integral role in helping to shape and strengthen the institutions brand and advance in a wide range of institutional effectiveness. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director of Digital Media. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Associate Director will work with the Senior Director of Strategic Communications and our leadership team to develop digital strategies to engage audiences through various web-based platforms, video development, and digital assets to analyze and measure our digital efforts. Leads the digital media team in supporting online communication efforts. Oversees the development, deployment, and management of content for social media channels to maximize effective stakeholder engagement. Works across campus to coordinate strategies and is a key communicator in crisis. Leads training and support across the Cal State system ensuring consistent messaging from other CSU (California State University) entities. Responsibilities include creating and curating shareable content; determining which platform is best suited for each piece of content; building and managing social media profiles and presence; directing paid social advertising and social campaigns and analyzing the performance of those campaigns; maintaining brand consistency across platforms; assessing SEO configurations; managing the digital budget; managing photography and videography; creating a workflow for visual content and integrating digital content across all our platforms. Uses data driven analytics to adjust tactics as needed constantly updating team members on impact of digital marketing. Works under broad general direction following established policies and procedures. Participates with management team in the development, implementation, and administration of departmental procedures. Interprets and recommends modifications to policies and develops operational procedures. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in communications or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing successful social-media engagement through content creation and curation. Extensive experience in researching, interpreting, and applying trends and best practices to enhance social media and website engagement. Experience working with video and digital visual elements, photography, and graphics to complement editorial content, web, and social media. Experience in researching, writing, editing, and proofing diverse editorial content, sometimes within highly condensed timeframes; ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective. Ability to effectively participate in comprehensive emergency-communications efforts. Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to publications and the news media. Ability to use market research to enhance the impact of digital content including advertising, web communications, and social media.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced technical experience using digital media equipment, video creation, and editing software. Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of the school/unit and to apply technical knowledge to fulfill the requirements.
