    RECRUITMENT PERIOD
    Open September 3rd, 2018 through November 15th, 2018

    DESCRIPTION
The Department of Film and Media at U.C. Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in digital film and media production, with an expected start date of July 1, 2019. Applicants for this position must have met all MFA or PhD (or equivalent international degree), requirements except the dissertation by the application date.

Preferred qualifications: We are seeking a candidate with a recognized or growing profile as a film/video or new media artist. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a creative practice that is experimentally oriented, and intellectually and critically engaged while committed to teaching in a liberal arts curriculum, at a large, diverse, public research university. Candidate must have a commitment to hands-on, artisanal approaches to teaching production technique as an integrated part of a program whose focus is the critical, theoretical and aesthetic study of film and media in all of their forms. Experience with new directions in motion-picture practice, including expanded video installation, web-based filmmaking, interactive and VR film platforms is also desirable, as are scholarship and publications in critical studies. Experience teaching critical studies courses is also preferable. An appropriate terminal degree (MFA/PhD), or equivalent by start date of this position.

The Department is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching and service. The Department is also committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples and single parents.

Complete applications will include a cover letter, your most recently updated C.V., an artist's statement, a teaching statement, and links to selected streaming content of applicant's production work, including no more than three examples. (Longer works should indicate specific selections to view). A statement of contributions to diversity, addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and/or service is strongly recommended. A sample of critical writing is also welcome if available. Additional materials may be requested at a later date. Three letters of reference should be submitted by the application deadline. All letters will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. All applicants are asked to refer their potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e. dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of confidentiality (http://apo.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html) prior to submitting their letters.
