The Interactive Arts and Media Department of Columbia College Chicago seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Game Design beginning August 2019. Successful candidates will demonstrate technical and critical expertise in their field related to Game Design, matched by a vibrant, complementary practice that directly contributes to the broader portfolio of applied media research and related civic tech initiatives in the School of Media Arts.

Ideal candidates will have teaching and creative development experience in several of the following areas: game software development, game engine programming, narrative design, game theory or related math models, prototyping, scripting, level design, systems design, game artificial intelligence, and human-centered design. Someone with a proven track record of game development and exhibition or distribution is critical.

The candidate must exhibit excellent teaching and scholarly credentials and be passionate about undergraduate and graduate education. Intellectual curiosity, an ability to communicate and work well in teams, and an understanding of team production methodologies is essential.A candidate with proven leadership skills and experience in curriculum development will be of particular interest.

Faculty in the Interactive Arts and Media department enjoy a student population of creative, fun, and diverse urbanites who are passionate about making games a central canon of their culture. Student-led clubs and frequent game-a-thons are paired with annual departmental presence at industry events like the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco and the Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG).

The department serves as a research and development hub within the School of Media Arts, connecting emerging media forms to other areas of scholarly inquiry and practice, including film, television, audio arts, communication and journalism. We are interested in candidates who can further the cross-industrial application of new game technologies toward both personal expression and socially-engaged play.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in areas assigned by the Department Chair.
Engage with the broader scholarly and professional communities.
Supervise and advise students.
Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Commit to continuing professional development.
Actively follow and promote Columbia College Chicago policies.

Qualifications
PhD, MFA or other terminal degree in computer games, computer science, digital media, computational media or other relevant field are preferred.
Candidates with significant and ongoing industry experience may apply and need appropriate certifications related to Game Design.
Professional experience and college teaching experience are highly desirable
