NURSING INSTRUCTOR – LVN/RN
Position Begins Spring Semester 2019
Closing Date: Open Until Filled

THE POSITION
Gavilan College seeks qualified and enthusiastic applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Nursing. The assignment involves teaching courses in Nursing, including fundamentals and medical-surgical, in the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and RN programs. Other related courses may be assigned, as determined by the needs of the college and the qualifications/experience of the selected candidate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide class instruction of 14-16 lecture equivalent hours per week, in accordance with established course outlines and departmental procedures in the areas of theory and clinical/laboratory content.
Assign, supervise, and evaluate students in the clinical area in accordance with established policies.
Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and student records and submit them in accordance with published deadlines.
Develop and revise course materials as necessary to assure innovative and creative teaching and learning.
Assist in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and review.
Communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Participate actively in all full-time faculty responsibilities, such as committee membership, and other duties as described in the Faculty Handbook and required by contract and District Policy.
Assist with state accreditation reports and visits.
Participate in career days and recruiting activities.
Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with District Policy.
Assist in development of policies and procedures in the program and is knowledgeable
of policies and procedures
Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the nursing program
Facilitate student participation in the program
Facilitate and ensure individual compliance with specific regulations of the Board of Registered Nursing governing continuing approval of the program.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master's degree which includes course work in nursing, education or administration
2. Two years of direct patient care experience within the previous five years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned
3. Completion of at least one year's experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or a post baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing within the last 5 years AND
4. Evidence of course work in "teaching" or the willingness to do so upon hire
5. Current CA license as a Registered nurse

Individuals lacking the above degree-based academic qualifications, but who may have an equivalent background must submit either an Equivalency Form as part of their application package

Desirable Attributes and Experience:
Clinical experience in medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, and/or psychiatric nursing
Teaching experience in an LVN and/or RN program, including clinical supervision
Certification as a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) instructor, or willingness to do so.
A demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of Community College students.
Experience with computers, computer-assisted instruction, individualized instruction and other technologies used to provide high-quality classroom and laboratory instruction.

SALARY
Initial salary placement in the current Faculty Salary Schedule depends on education and experience. Benefit package includes employee and dependent medical, vision, dental plans, and $50,000 life insurance.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates selected for interview will be asked to present a teaching demonstration and may also be asked to demonstrate writing ability. Details will be provided prior to the date of the interview. Finalists will be invited to an interview with the President and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The President will make the recommendation for employment to the Governing Board of the District.
