Description of Position:
Diablo Valley College is seeking to add to its pool of adjunct faculty who can teach photography in the Art and Art Digital Media departments. We are hiring for an adjunct pool for Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025 semesters, with possible courses in subsequent semesters.

Desirable Qualifications:

The applicant will have prior introductory level photography teaching experience.
They will be familiar with both analog and digital photographic process and practices.
They will have a knowledge of the tools and equipment utilized in an educational art studio space and/or computer lab.
Experience in teaching courses similar to those listed in the job description.
Varied knowledge in their field as evidenced by a resume and portfolio which reflects dedication to an artistic practice via exhibitions and technical experience.
Professional experience working with and teaching a diverse student population in a multi-cultural college environment.
A history of maintaining good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community contacts.
Proven ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.
Examples of courses that might be taught in this position include: ART160: Photography I (Introduction to Black and White Darkroom), ART161: Photography II (Intermediate Black and White Darkroom), ART163: Documentary Photography, ART-164 Photographic Portfolio Development, ART-165 Advanced Photographic Portfolio Development, ART-166 Experimental Photography, ARTDM-136 Introduction to Digital Photography, ARTDM-137 Intermediate Digital Photography

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

To teach courses in both disciplines, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for each:

Art Discipline Minimum Qualifications:Masters in Fine Arts, Art, or Art HistoryORBachelors in any of the above AND Masters in HumanitiesORthe equivalent
Art Digital Media Discipline Minimum Qualifications: Any bachelors degree or higher AND two years of professional experience,
OR
Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a masters degree.

Desirable Qualifications:
Able to teach one or more of the following: darkroom photography, digital photography, photographic lighting, alternative photographic processes, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, medium and large format photography.

Professional photographic experience working in the industry.
