The convergence of talent among students, faculty, and staff produces a quality educational experience unmatched by any other two-year college. This is a tenure-track position with a 15-course unit teaching load. Receiving tenure in this position is focused primarily on teaching, along with professional development and service. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, the successful candidate will teach a variety of journalism, public relations, media and society, visual communication, or communication studies courses, as well as fulfill committee and related tasks as assigned:

1. Develop, teach, and coordinate face-to-face and online instruction across various communication courses, in journalism, public relations, and media and society. May help direct and/or manage aspects of the Student Media Center.2. Utilize diverse methodologies, rigorous assessment, and consistent course content.3. Participate in curriculum development, textbook selection, and course and program assessment as needed.4. Provide students with clear assignment descriptions and grading criteria.5. Respond with appropriate and timely feedback regarding assignments and quizzes.6. Assess and maintain accurate and current student performance records.8. Demonstrate commitment to professional development and commitment to making significant contributions to the Communication Department, in addition to teaching a full class load.9. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops.10. Help guide students on their academic progress and program requirements.11. Work closely with the Student Media Center to coordinate curriculum and practicum opportunities for students.12. Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues, and administration.13. Accept other duties as assigned.14. Attend New Faculty Orientation sessions.15. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to the Department and College mission and values.16. Pursue professional development activities and contribute to the Departments policies and procedures.17. Serve on Department, School, and/or College committees as needed to assist in policy development, curriculum development, procedures, or other matters that benefit the Department, School, and/or College.18. Assist in advising The Globe student newspaper.19. Work collaboratively with faculty in other disciplines.20. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Masters degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Visual Communication, or related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Demonstrated ability teaching students in communication subjects, such as visual communication, journalism, news media, digital storytelling, or similar hands-on production.
3. A record of successful teaching in the discipline on the college/university level.

Preferred Qualifications: 1. Successful and paid experience in teaching a variety of communication classes at the community college level, in news media, journalism, public relations, and media and society.2. Record of successful and paid experience with college-level curriculum development.3. Record of successful and paid experience teaching online classes and working in online educational platforms.4. Professional experience in journalism, public relations, social media as a news medium or digital media integration.5. Demonstrated ability to advise a student newspaper.6. Ability to help promote SLCC and the Journalism and Digital Media program at on-campus and off-campus recruiting events.7. Demonstrated ability to maintain and supervise Center for Arts and Media communication area facilities.8. Experience working in a community college environment.9. Record of successful experience with supervising and/or advising students.10. Record of successful experience on academic committees.11. Demonstrated experience with community engagement.12. Experience working with unique communities (for example, autism spectrum, differently-abled, aged, etc.)13. Demonstrated commitment to improving access to, and retention in, higher education for students from communities traditionally under-represented in higher education.14. Demonstrated experience in multicultural teaching practices.15. Demonstrated experience teaching courses with an emphasis on cultural and ethnic diversity.16. Knowledge of the Adobe Master Suite (specifically Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Audition, Premiere and InDesign).17. Bilingual.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Deep knowledge of discipline area.2. Effectively communicate complex and relevant educational materials.3. Demonstrate a clear understanding of current and historical mass media and media industry trends, with the ability to incorporate a progressive mass media workflow into course curriculum.4. Show distinctive promise as an educator in the Communication Department.5. Ability to communicate effectively and work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.6. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to establish positive working relationships with faculty and staff.7. Ability to successfully collaborate with faculty in other disciplines, including speech communication, film, music, etc.8. Provide leadership and outreach to area high schools, colleges and universities, community organizations and professionals, in order to build and maintain community and educational connections and partnerships.
