The School of Art offers professionally-oriented BFA coursework in ceramics, expanded forms, furniture design, glass, illustration, medical illustration, metals & jewelry design, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. There are 285 undergraduate students, with 148 majoring in Illustration. Graduate coursework is offered in fine arts studio and art education. College of Art and Design:
The College of Art and Design offers programs within five schools: Art, Crafts, Design, Film and Animation, and Photography. The College of Art and Design possesses the universitys highest number of national top-ten graduate rankings (glass, ceramics, photography, graphic design, and industrial design). It is one of RIT's largest colleges, with ten BFA programs and two BS programs, serving approximately 1,700 undergraduate students; nine MFA programs, two MS programs, and an MST in Visual Arts-All Grades, with approximately 270 graduate students overall. Detailed Job Description
The School of Art at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites candidates to apply for a tenure track, Assistant Professor faculty position in the Illustration Program. The appointment begins in August of 2021. The position requires teaching three courses per semester, typically teaching at the sophomore through senior levels of the BFA Illustration Program, but subject to the needs of the department and school. This may include teaching assignments in the first year Foundation level courses that support all programs within the School of Art. BFA students go through a rigorous foundation year, introduction to major areas their sophomore year, then choose from a wide selection of courses at the junior and senior levels. The Illustration Program emphasizes drawing, proficiency with traditional and digital media, and visual problem-solving skills in a rigorous program focused on developing professional competencies for all illustration markets.

As an active practitioner in the field, the successful applicant will be a passionate educator with knowledge of both historic traditions and current trends in illustration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in the game and/or entertainment markets. They will bring rigor and innovation to the program and possess a strong commitment to community and collegiality with a willingness to employ technology. An MFA and teaching experience is required. Experience as an established professional illustrator is required. Expectations include advising; School of Art, college, and university committee service; recruitment; program development; and a record of creative/research activities that meet tenure requirements.
